Due to poor drainage conditions, structures can either settle (in case of loose soils) or lift up(in case of expansive soils) sustaining significant damage (i.e. foundations and floor slab cracks) which can be costly and time consuming to repair. Most engieers merely provide recommendations for repair of any cracks in the strucutre, its foundation, and floor slabs. As geotechnical engineers we not only provide you with those recommendations but also try to mitigate the mechanism that lead to development of the cracks in the first palce (i.e. settlement or uplift of the underlying soils and/or any adverse drainage conditions). Depending on the cause of the noted cracking, (i.e. if the strucutre has settled or not), the repairs may range fro merely fixing the cracks using epoxy injection operations to underpinning of the foundations to prevent future settling and additional cracking.

The levelness of a pool is determined by examination of the water line in the pool as compared with the tile lines and the presence of any cracks within the pool shell or around the pool decking. Retaining walls are checked for cracks and using a plumb bob to determine whether or not they are leaning excessively.
