Geotechnical Engineering is the branch of Civil Engineering specializing in evaluation of geologic conditions affecting properties. Geotechnical Engineers are also licensed Civil Engineers who have demonstrated a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of Geotechnical Engineering.  As geotechnical engineers (soil engineers)  we make recommendations for adequate support of strucutres, retaining walls, swimming pools, and mitigation of drainage conditions based on the geologic conditions that are present at a given site.  Geotechnical engineers not only evaluate hillside properties where stability of slopes and slippage of strucutres is a major concern but they also evaluate flat lying properties which usually have some sort of drainage problem (i.e. water in crawl space, etc.) which cna cause settlement of the subgrade soils.
